First Day of School Picture

Greetings from Wisconsin! As some of you may know, I nanny for a fantastic family during the summer. I've been doing it for almost six years! I love the kids and they inspire me every day! While I am out here helping them, the twins have been helping me make some of my Pinterest projects! They are just too cute!

Project #2

Okay, so last year something I regret not doing is taking a picture of my students on the first day of school. I think I was just overwhelmed starting at a new school, having my own classroom....did I mention starting at a new school!? I came across this super cute website that has Chalkboard Signs  for each grade on the first day of school. I think it was created for parents, but I don't care - I'm using it! My plan is to have a picture of each one of my students with the "First Day of 4th Grade" poster attached to a personal narrative piece about  the first day of school. To kick off this lesson, I'll read the book, First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg to get their minds ready for writing (this book is super cute and always gets the kids to giggle at the end). Ask students to turn and talk to their partners for seed story ideas and send them to their seats to write. Clearly this is just an overview of what I'm doing (I'll iron out the details once I get my finalized class list). I'm super excited to do this lesson - I already have my sample seed story ready... I guess that makes me a super cool nerd!

Note: Like I said in my first post, I like to fancy things up by backing posters on scrapbook paper. Here I simple double backed it using two different colored pieces of card stock. I plan on laminating it once I get to school...I hope Mrs. Hull has the laminator ready for all of my summer projects!! =)

Happy Summer!
Jackie
